The Chairman of the Board of Cedro Participações, Lucas Kallas, took part on Monday (22) in the first cycle of the Eloos Project, in Nova Lima (MG), an event organized by Rádio Itatiaia and CNN, which was sponsored by Cedro Mineração.
The meeting brought together national leaders to discuss the mining sector and the direction of economic development in Minas Gerais. The debates, which took place in three panels, covered the themes of socio-environmental responsibility, technological innovation and ways to strengthen mining in the state and in the country.
In his participation in the "ESG in Mining" panel, Lucas Kallas spoke about Cedro's projects that will give new impetus to mining logistics in the state: the railroad branch, the focus on pellet feed - green ore, Long Distance Belt Transportation (LDCT) and Cedro's terminal in the Port of Itaguaí (RJ).
"It was a very important event for our sector. Responsible mining, with a focus on innovation, sustainability and communities, will boost our country," he said.
Kallas also highlighted the capacity of Minas Gerais and Brazil to continue developing with new investments. "Our state's potential is huge. We have room to grow a lot. Entrepreneurs have to believe in Brazil, always rigorously following the path of sustainability," he added.
The importance of dialog
The Cedro Group's investments and expansion were also mentioned by the businessman, who reaffirmed the importance of dialogue in the sector for the future of Minas Gerais and Brazil.
The event was opened by the chairman of the board of CNN Brasil and Itatiaia, Rubens Menin, who highlighted the importance of the activity for Minas Gerais and Brazil. Governor Romeu Zema then stated that mining continues to be one of the most important activities in Minas Gerais' economy, and called for the sector to act with environmental and social responsibility.
National Council
In his speech, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced the creation of the National Mineral Policy Council to discuss policies for the sector. According to him, the council will include the participation of sixteen other ministers, as well as representatives from organized civil society and academia. The mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alvaro Damião, was also present.
The panel discussions brought together important mining personalities, such as the former governor of Minas Gerais and minister of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), Antonio Anastasia; the attorney general of Minas Gerais, Paulo de Tarso Morais Filho; the president of Fiemg, Flávio Roscoe; Vale's technical executive vice-president, Rafael Bittar; Itaminas' CEO, Thiago Toscano; Itaminas' VP of Operations, Argeu Géo Filho, and Minas Gerais' Secretary of State for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Marília Carvalho de Melo, among others.
