Cedro Mineração was one of the winners of the 26th Mining Industry Excellence Award 2024, promoted by Revista Minério & Minerales, the most important publication in the sector. The winning project, called Skid - NR 34, located at the Morro do Gama mine in Nova Lima (MG), guarantees the use of low-grade compact and semi-compact iron ore, which would otherwise be discarded, making it possible to exploit the mine rationally and economically, with environmental and social responsibility.

"We are grateful for this recognition and remain confident in the positive impact of the Cedro way of doing business, which has sustainability as its premise," says Lucas Kallas, chairman of the board of Cedro Participações, the parent company of Cedro Mineração. "The Skid - NR 34 project is another step that demonstrates that with innovation it is possible to combine economic gains with social, economic and environmental development for all."

The process developed by Cedro allows 60% of the material that would previously have been discarded in the tailings pile to be sent for processing, where it is separated into three varieties of iron ore products, with an average content of over 40.1%. Hematite (HMT3) is sold on the domestic market; sinter-feed (SF3) and concentrate (CNC) are destined for export.

According to Cedro Mineração's operations director, Wanderley Santo, who conceived and was responsible for carrying out the project, the initiative adopted by the company has made it possible to reduce stoppages in the beneficiation process, increasing the plant's production capacity and, as a result, reducing costs, making the operation viable. It has also contributed to the preservation of mineral resources.
