On August 7, 2024, Veja magazine's Radar Econômico column reported that the chairman of the board of Cedro Participações, Lucas Kallas, advocates that the National Bank for Economic and Social Development's (BNDES) Climate Fund should have lines of financing for sustainable mining.
The request was made during the "Brazil-China 50 years" seminar, which celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China. At the same table was the president of the BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante.
For Kallas, with more government funding, the mining sector will be able to migrate to pellet feed, a direct reduction ore that emits 50% less carbon in steel production. "The Climate Fund has funding for everything except iron ore," he said.
The Climate Fund is one of the instruments of the National Policy on Climate Change aimed at initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change.
During the event, the Chairman of the Board of Cedro Participações also advocated a joint agenda for the major iron ore producers to make the transition to pellet feed.
