Cedro Participações announced an investment plan of approximately R$ 5 billion over the next five years in strategic logistics projects in Brazil. The holding company, which operates in the mining, logistics, agriculture, and infrastructure segments, is controlled by Minas Gerais businessman Lucas Kallas.

One of the main projects is the development of Porto do Meio, a private terminal located in Itaguaí, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state. With an estimated investment of R$ 3.6 billion, the venture is located between Vale and CSN's operational areas, reinforcing its strategic position for the transport of mineral production.

In Minas Gerais, Cedro is moving forward with the implementation of Shortline Serra Azul, a 26.5-kilometer short-distance railway that will receive R$ 1.5 billion in investments. According to the holding company, the project has the potential to remove around 5,000 trucks per day from the BR-381 highway, contributing to a reduction in pollutant emissions and increased road safety on one of the busiest stretches of road in the state.

The fiscal impact of the investments is also significant. The port terminal operation in Rio de Janeiro is expected to generate R$ 1.2 billion in ISS (service tax) for municipalities in the region. The expansion of activities in Mariana is projected to generate R$ 350 million in taxes, in addition to R$ 100 million in Financial Compensation for Mineral Resource Exploration (CFEM).

Investment in high-grade ore

In addition to logistics, Cedro Participações is investing in the production of high-grade iron ore for the energy transition. The company is investing around US$ 700 million in the construction of a direct reduction pellet feed plant in Mariana (MG).

According to Lucas Kallas, pellet feed is a high-grade iron ore concentrate with low levels of impurities, used as the main input in pellet production. "This material is essential for manufacturing cleaner steel, with the potential to reduce carbon emissions in steelmaking by up to 50%, " he says.
